Introduction

Apollo Hosting offers a nice feature set, but is on the expensive side. To get any type of a break, you will need to consider signing up for a 2 year agreement. These days, 2 years is a lifetime on the Internet – with as fast as things change we just are not finding that this type of requirement in exchange for a price break when you are way expensive to start with – is appealing.

Price and Cost Effectiveness

What Apollo Hosting will give you is actually a big beefy package for the money, which impressed us: you get 200 MB Disk Space, 10 GB data transfer, Web Based Email, Autoresponders, PGP Encrypted Email, 20 Mailing Lists, SPAM Filtering Control Panel, website statistics, Password Protect Directories, custom 404 error page, Real Video, Flash, Shockwave, Quicktime Video, MP3 support, MySQL, PHP, Perl, Java, SSI, Cron. They also include free Miva Merchant eCommerce package (up to 10 items), which is a nice add-on. Sub-domains are $10 each. Apollo does not offer log file access – at least not last time we checked. This could be an issue for some.

Still, we felt that this was a provider that was trying to stand behind what they claimed you would get for the high prices they charge. They have gotten quite a bit of positive recognition from the hosting industry as well as their customers. Here’s what they have to say for themselves:

Data Center

Apollo hosting offer redundant Internet connections – they are connected to several Tier 1 providers including Qwest, and Genuity (now owned by Level3 Communications). Reliability was a little spotty, which did not make us very comfortable. On the plus side there gave us several ways to access technical support – toll-free support line weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm, 24 hour chat services and email. The actual support that their folks delivered was OK. With the great support features that they offer on paper, we wish they would have a team that could back them up 110%.

Conclusion

We give this provider a thumbs-up for features offered for the price. The technical support thing is a potential deal killer, though. Look before you leap into this one.
