Introduction
Jumpline.com is a
privately owned Tier 1 business web
hosting provider with mixed reviews.
The service is more expensive than some
of the other providers we have looked
at, yet they do not get high ratings on
uptime. From their Web site:
Choose Jumpline.com and
immediately realize the benefits of
having your websites hosted on
Virtual Dedicated Server
(VDS) technology. From the flexibility
to the security, VDS hosting has
surpassed the standards of old 'virtual
hosting' solutions. Whether you are new
to web hosting or an experienced
webmaster, a Jumpline.com
Virtual Dedicated Server
will provide all of the tools and
features necessary for you to succeed
now and well into the future.
Price
and Cost Effectiveness
The package price
Jumpline quoted was expensive, as we
mentioned. For $11.95 and that is if
you sign up for a two-year agreement,
otherwise you will be paying $14.95 -
you get 200 megs of space and 7.5 GB of
data transfer. If the plan was packed
with features and functions and cool
standard software, that would be one
thing. But what they offer we were able
to find in packages costing a little as
$5.00. They do use the Sphera control
panel this is one of the finest
looking panels out there but users
complain that it is slow even on a cable
modem. The feature set is good, but not
as good as Hsphere.
On the plus side, they
have a start-of-the-art data center
having to pay for that may in part
explain their high prices and they
pass muster in terms of reliability. We
never had any extraordinary problems
on the other hand the reliability was OK
and met what we consider industry
standards. We feel like if we are
paying premium prices we should get
premium something! It is not in
the features and functions and while
99.9% reliability is about the most
anyone delivers, we still felt like we
wanted that little extra something.
Customer
Relations
Wanting to
give them at least another chance to
give us that extra bit, we sent in some
customer support questions. This is
another unfortunate example where
response was not in a matter of hours,
it took several days. Taking into
consideration that maybe they were just
having a bad day we called into support
issues over the course of six months and
the response time really didnt drop
appreciably. Worse, there were some
phone issues and on at least one
occasion they lost our ticket and we had
to go through the entire problem
description again. Suffice it to say
that this type of thing is not really
acceptable in the industry.
Overall
This provider is probably a pass unless
they have rectified their issues. If
you are going to pay a premium, you
deserve to get premium performance in
return.
